Tawse is the reincarnation of Domaine Maume, born of the alliance between Burgophile Canadian Pascal Marchand and the highly talented English winemaker Mark Fincham. The friendly, creative tension between these two is palpable, and results in a set of powerful, expressive wines that recapture the spirit of Maume in its heyday. You only have to look at Mark’s hands to know he is a winemaker who takes vineyard work seriously – and he mostly talks about the vineyard, not the winery, so it’s easy to see where the focus is. He is a man with his feet on the ground – the way he talks about critics and commentary makes it clear that he hasn’t let the high scores Tawse has been achieving in recent vintages go to his head.
