Felettig, Sigaut, Grivot, Tawse, Gouges |
The village of Chambolle-Musigny is known for a certain style of Burgundy, delicate and lacy on the surface, but with a depth that rewards aging. It's also home to several favourite Uncorked growers. Over the last decade, Gilbert Felettig has overseen a meteoric rise in his domaine’s reputation. His vineyard management has become much more exacting just as his cellar work has become more delicate, and the results are compelling. At Sigaut, Anne and Hervé bring a refined style of winemaking to some wonderfully sited old vines. Their 2024s are extremely attractive. The village of Vosne-Romanée is home to some of the most expensive vinous real estate anywhere. Grivot has some fabulous holdings here and beyond, and our tasting with Mathilde Grivot was one of the best we enjoyed anywhere on the Côte. Grivot 2024s are perfumed and charming, but with a concentrated energy under the surface. The village of Nuits-St-Georges has a reputation for a darker and more powerful style of Burgundy, though as ever, a grower's individual style can make a huge difference to the final result. At Tawse, English winemaker Mark Fincham leans into the rich and energetic. You only have to look at his hands to know he is a winemaker who takes vineyard work seriously, and he is a perfectionist in the winery. And for many people, Gouges are the emblematic domaine of Nuits-St-Georges. The changes that have taken place over the last twenty years under the stewardship of cousins Greg and Antoine have led to wines that are as age-worthy as ever, but with lusher, silkier tannins. These wines are an absolute pleasure to drink. /NT |
