Anne Krebiehl MW

The 2025 Gruner Veltliner Ried Achleiten Smaragd is from densely planted vines dating to the 1950s on two parcels across gneiss terraces with brown topsoil. A touch of flint still speaks tenderly of reduction before the nose unfolds into an almost floral charm. Citrus, yeast and crushed chervil emerge on the nose. Stone and savoriness are foremost on the palate, joined by lovely white pepper crushed with sage and salt. This has untold energy, real drive and much vigor, holding back for now but clearly raring to go. All this bundled savory energy comes in a clear, svelte outline. Give this time; this genie wants time before it is released from the bottle. 95 points
