Boasting a fuller more opulent fruit delivery, the Giuseppe Mascarello 2017 Barolo Perno Vigna Santo Stefano shows soft layers of dark berry and sweet cassis. Nebbiolo maintains its freshness in this case and its structural heft that gives the mouthfeel such importance and persistence. The 2017 vintage delivers more power and fruit weight overall. The finished wine is slightly more accessible and open-knit as a result. 95 points

Monforte d`Alba. Lustrous mid ruby. Rich complex nose with great lift. Cherry steeped in liqueur, hints of dried fruit, sweet spice notes and with quite a bit of power underneath. With aeration, more and more pure maraschino cherry. Hugely appealing supple cherry fruit with hints of sweet fruit cake but much more complex than it sounds. Juicy finish with long super-fine tannins. This displays richness and finesse at the same time. 17.5 Points
