2008 Tomatin, AD Rattray 11 yo 56.5% Speyside

Caramel, toffee and fudge – every time I sniff this whisky, I am transported back to my time as a kid standing outside the Fudge shop on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. It’s a pretty classic Tomatin profile, on the richer end of the Speyside spectrum. A splash of water refines the sweetness with notes of perfumed talc and icing sugar. Founded in the late 19th century whisky boom, Tomatin survived the ensuing bust and went on to become one of the top-producing distilleries in Scotland. (NT 15/07/19)
