2025 is a great Bordeaux vintage. The best wines are defined by a compelling combination of concentration and freshness, with moderate alcohol levels (typically 13%) that give no sense of the heat of the growing season. These wines are classical in the best sense of the word, and will perform beautifully in cellars. Considering the greatness of the vintage, most wines are also defined by a reasonable approach to pricing - so there's never been a better time to put some Bordeaux in your cellar. With all the wines having now released, we've put together our commune-by-commune selection of campaign picks, the wines that really fired us up.

St-Estèphe gave us the best second wine of the campaign: Dame de Montrose beats many first wines at other properties. Down the road, Grand-Puy-Lacoste is one of the great properties in Pauillac. 2025 saw the inauguration of their new, gravity-fed cellar, with double the previous vat capacity. Greater precision in the winery naturally leads to a finer wine, and 2025 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a beauty.

'It was a very hot year in the vineyard, but the acidity and the style of the tannins are very much those of a classic vintage,' Estate Manager Jean-Dominique Videau told us at Branaire-Ducru, in St-Julien. 2025 sees a great Branaire, as fresh as it is fleshy, as dense as it is elegant. In Margaux, Nicolas Audebert joked, 'our technical team are faster than global warming' when we marvelled at the sense of freshness and energy in 2025 Rauzan-Ségla. It's a fabulous wine with glossy, fruit-coated tannins, and will reward time in any cellar.

Pessac-Léognan gave us the best Domaine de Chevalier Rouge that Uncorked has tasted en primeur, intensely vibrant and layered. In St-Emilion, Laroque gave us a pure expression of the limestone plateau. And we couldn’t agree more with Neal Martin when he calls Feytit-Clinet the ‘insider’s Pomerol’, perhaps the ‘best Feytit’ he has tasted from barrel. /NT
