N.V. Leiper`s Fork Tennessee Whiskey 50%
Secondary Description
70% corn, 15% wheat, 15% toasted barley malt, all locally sourced and processed on-site at the Leiper`s Fork Distillery in Franklin, Tennessee (just outside of Nashville). Distilled in a pot-still to 68.5% abv, filtered through sugar-maple charcoal and put into new American oak barrels at 55% abv, aged for 5 years before bottling at 50% abv.
Charcoal filtration strips out the malt character and allows the wood to dominate the spirit. This results in a relatively elegant, delicate spirit, woody rather than spicy, with less cornmeal character and more American oak sweetness and caramel in evidence. This is more of a sipping whiskey than the Bourbon, and can be more easily enjoyed neat. (JH 24/06/24)
