Freshly varnished decking, sealing wax, spiced pear, cinnamon, apple pie - intense, complex aromas. The palate is fresh, and tad more varietal initially, with red apple and pear fruit before the strangeness kicks in again on the slightly spirity finish, very full-bore, `almost chocolately` as one taster put it. This wine is a blend of two vintages from adjoining sites, 2020 Vieilles Vignes (24 months in oak) and 2021 Prieur des Noues (12 months in oak). Chateau de Bonnezeaux dates back to the 19th Century, but the current era began in 2012 when the estate was replanted with the intention of producing low-intervention, dry wines rather than the excellent (but sadly unfashionable) sweet wines for which the appellation was justly famous...
