This is the first solera blend Ricardo Diogo Freitas has ever made with Malvasia Cândida - previously it’s always been single vintage. (NB, it`s different from the Malvasia that usually goes into Malmsey.) Average age of the wine is 15 years.
Smells like candied citrus peel and lemon curd. Honeysuckle and honey-roasted pecans. This is amazing. SO much density, breadth, excitement. Thrilling. Honeyed richness and citrus with a tiny nudge of coffee cream and lemon zest. Absolutely humming with life. So long. Frangipani and Persian lime flood the finish with a strange, exotic freshness. 19 points
