N.V. Bollinger Rose

A wistful strawberry and rose petal bouquet on this delightful rose champagne; it may come from the French citadel of Ay, but for me it`s all about the English summer. It is also an ideal match for smoked kippers, so perfect for imagining you are Noel Coward, drinking champagne with a ration card breakfast while bombs crash down around you. In the interests of historical accuracy, it should be noted that this cuvee did not appear for the first time till 2008, but historical accuracy should never be allowed to get in the way of a good flight of fancy. Josh Raynolds

(60% pinot noir, 25% chardonnay and 15% pinot meunier; L1316802). Vivid pink. High-pitched red berry and blood orange scents are complicated by a floral pastille element and a hint of smoky lees. Sappy and penetrating on the palate, offering vibrant citrus fruit and raspberry flavors and a touch of toastiness. Shows serious power on the finish, which echoes the red fruit and toast notes. This Champagne has the depth to handle rich foods and the energy and cut to provide pleasure on its own. 90 points
