2023 Belondrade y Lurton Rueda (Verdejo)

Lemon and nectarine meet honeysuckle and fennel in a concentrated, classy wine. There`s a lick of posh oak on the mid-palate, leading through to the zesty, high-energy finish. 2023 was `a year of surprises` in Rueda, with very dry periods alternating with episodes of heavy rain. Jean Belondrade notes that `the passage of hail storms in the summer made us look to the sky with concern`. Harvest time saw some of the lowest yields at Belondrade in a decade, but the quality of the crop was very high. The wine is already performing extremely well. Jean notes that 2023 has `an integration which seems perhaps unusual for a wine this young`. (NT 24/06/25)

2023 Belondrade y Lurton Rueda (Verdejo)

Media Reviews

Luis Gutierrez

I find the iconic 2023 Belondrade y Lurton to be unusually ripe, spicy and showy, with some exuberant notes of peach and a little oaky. It has a core of yellow fruit, pollen and hay. The palate is soft and tender, with integrated acidity, 14% alcohol and some power but with freshness and balance, with the classical bitter touch in the finish. 104,305 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2024. 94 points

Joaquin Hidalgo

The 2023 Belondrade y Lurton offers aromas of baked apple, herbs and pastry, followed by soft oak, a hint of laurel and lightly toasted bread. Sweet-fruited and creamy, it is delicate and youthful, currently a bit disjointed but expected to come together with time. 93 points
