Fragrant, inviting nose with violets and red-berry fruit. Restrained spice notes, light and fine tannins, hint of aniseed to finish, all wrapped up with bright, freshening acidity. Approachable now. 16 points

Ricardo Perez Palacios’s 2022 Corullón “Viño de Villa” is an absolutely stunning young bottle of Mencía. As readers may recall, this is Ricardo’s village wine bottling, made from several separate parcels of vines scattered around the Hamlet of Corullón. The wine’s aromatic constellation is deep, pure and complex, wafting from the glass in a beautiful blend of dark berries, coffee bean, a complex base of dark soil tones, tree bark, gentle botanicals, a touch of brown spices, cedary oak and a topnote of distant bonfire. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and precise, with stunning depth of fruit at the core, great soil signature and grip, ripe, seamless tannins and a long, beautifully balanced and complex finish. This is a great wine in the making. 95 points
