Monica Larner
Showing pretty concentration and richness, the Fratelli Alessandria 2021 Barbera d`Alba Superiore Priòra mirrors the classic intensity of this vintage. There is a sweet side to this wine with blackberry preserves and baked cherry, but you also get hints of sweet earth and spice over medium-plus texture. The vintage makes the difference. This is a 7,000-bottle release. 93 points

The 2021 Barbera d`Alba Priora is a rich, heady wine. It offers up copious black fruit, leather, liquorice, spice, chocolate and oak notes. This is an especially opulent wine from Fratelli Alessandria. In that sense, it is a bit of a stylistic outlier. The wine itself is outstanding, but readers expecting a Barbera in line with the Alessandria house style might be disappointed. 90 points
