2017 Feytit-Clinet (Pomerol)

We didn’t need to taste the wine at Feytit-Clinet to realise that Jeremy Chasseuil had another success in his cellar: his demeanour said it all. Fisherman and oenologist, Jeremy is the real deal: down-to-earth, hands-on, a proper vigneron. He’s transformed his family’s 7 hectare property over the last 12 or 13 years but the price remains low. He didn’t lose any fruit to the frost from his best plots and he was very happy with the growing season – a bit of hydraulic stress, but not too much, he said. The wine has the density of 2016 and is richer than 2014. Again, there’s no finer value in Pomerol. (AR 06/06/2018)

2017 Feytit-Clinet (Pomerol)

Neal Martin

The 2017 Feytit-Clinet has quite a complex bouquet with red berry fruit, a touch of seaweed and smoke. It is not as powerful as the previous two vintages although it displays impressive focus. The palate is very refined on the entry, silky smooth in texture (as usual) with a fine bead of acidity. It just needs to manifest more precision towards the finish but that will hopefully develop during its barrel maturation. I have been a big supporter of Jeremy Chasseuil’s often over-looked Pomerol and though, this is not from his top-drawer, it still shows potential. I am prudent with my assessment for now. 90-92 points

Jane Anson

Structured and extracted, with some cocoa bean and liquorice emphasis. You can see where owner Jérémy Chasseuil is going with this, as it displays cassis and extremely tight ground coffee bean flavours. Overall there is not a lot of light being let in, yet it just doesn`t seem ripe enough to support the ambition. 87 points

Deep greyish crimson. Charry dark fruit on the nose. Plenty of black fruit though the oak is rather apparent at the moment. Tannins are compact but smooth, just a little sour and hard on the finish. 15.5 points

The present blend of the 2017 Feytit Clinet is 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Very deep purple-black in color, it gives up crushed black plums, blackberries and mulberries with hints of spice box, sandalwood and wood smoke. The palate is medium-bodied, firm, chewy and quite earthy in the mouth with just enough freshness and those spices reemerge on the finish. 90-92 points
