2014 Mortlach, AD Rattray 10 yo 60.8%
Secondary Description
Bourbon hogshead
Mortlach has always been known for a rugged style of whisky, noted for its meaty, savoury notes. Not either double or triple distilled, the secret here is the mathematically complex, staggered 2.81 distillation system, with different stills sorting and redistilling some streams of spirit. This bottling brings a very Highland style to the Beast of Dufftown. It’s creamy and honeyed, with notes of oat and citrus to go with the Horlicks, caramel and umami. If you like a dram with some real richness then this is full of interest and complexity. A classic of the Mortlach genre. (NT 09/07/26)
