2024 Vincent Paris: terroir truth from Cornas

The dramatic slope that towers over the Northern Rhône village of Cornas makes muscular, gritty expressions of Syrah. With most of the vineyards too complicated and demanding to work at scale, there are no large domaines here - but there is the potential to make great wine. Vincent Paris is a quiet, modest man, but one whose wines are utterly compelling expressions of Cornas Syrah. 

2024 was as challenging a year in Cornas as in the rest of France. But it is in vintages like these, notes Vincent, that great vineyards really show their pedigree. The cool, damp conditions of 2024 demanded a high level of commitment in the vineyard, but have gifted Vincent’s wines an exceptional freshness and energy.

Vincent's Granit 30 cuvee is an earlier-drinking cuvée, made from destemmed fruit grown on a 30-degree section of slope. Granit 60 is more structured, coming from older vines on a steeper section of slope. It also includes an element of whole bunch fermentation, which adds to the aromatic complexity. Vincent owns a section of very old vines in the lieu-dit La Geynale, planted by his great-grandfather. This site, which is part of the even more famous Reynard, is responsible for what Rhône critic Matt Walls calls 'some of the most thunderous Syrahs in the world'.
