I previewed the NV La Bota de Manzanilla 71, which will be bottled in the summer, a blend of wines from the vineyards Las Cañas (Pago Balbaina - Las Tablas) and La Soledad (Pago El Cuadro); it matured in 600-liter oak butts (casks) with flor for some seven years in the winery of Sanchez Ayala in Sanlucar de Barrameda. This is a very biological Manzanilla, with strong marine aromas and a sharp palate. It feels like a lighter and more aromatic version of La Bota de Manzanilla; it is more civilized and less wild, which Jesus Barquin compared with La Bota 8, which he said was also quite light. But the acetaldehyde character is quite distinct here, especially as I tasted an unbottled sample, but I expect the finished wine to be quite close to what I tasted. They expect to produce around 5,000 bottles of this wine. 91-93 points
