`2021 was a beautiful vintage in Yarra Valley`, says Sarah Crowe. `Possibly my favourite vintage since I`ve been in the Yarra. All varieties looked great.` Chardonnay is 10% barrel-fermented. A mix of spontaneous fermentation and inoculation, 25% new French oak. They usually prevent malo. Tasted from a 37.5-cl bottle.
Wreath of smoke on the nose. Origami acidity. Crunchy nashi pear, then pineapple and grapefruit, pomelo. Slight mealy, roast-potato-skin note. Gentle grip on the end. Pomelo-peel fragrance on the finish. A wine that fills the back, starts from the back, back-fills towards the tip of the tongue. Which makes you think; and it makes your throat sing. 17 points
