2021 Pegaso Cebreros Garnacha Arrebatacapas

Media Reviews

Joaquin Hidalgo

The 2021 Arrebatacapas is 100% Garnacha from a high and windy site in the Sierra de Gredos. Intensely aromatic and slightly liqueur-like, it offers cherry, soft candy, moderate oak, red fruit and dried leaves. The palate is fresh and finely textured with a trace of cherry. Fluid yet flavorful, this fine Garnacha is rich, intense and nuanced. 95 points

Luis Gutierrez

The 2021 Pegaso Arrebatacapas comes from a plot at 1,000 meters above sea level on brown slate soils. It fermented in different containers: oak, stainless steel vats and clay pots, and matured in 500- and 600-liter French oak barrels for 18 months. It has a ripe nose and a more powerful and concentrated palate with more tannins. It has notes of cherries in liqueur and seems to be evolving at a faster pace; it even has a more orange color. It feels more ephemeral. It has 14.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.55 and 4.73 grams of acidity. It feels different from the other 2021s and needs more time. 3,036 bottles were filled in April 2023. 95 points

Decanter Panel Tasting

Arrebatacapas is a 2.1ha vineyard planted in 1953 and recuperated since 1999 by Telmo Rodríguez, one of the leading figures in the rediscovery of Cebreros. The wine has a particularly marked freshness which reflects the soil – quartz-veined slate – and zone which is surrounded by juniper, rosemary and lavender. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts, using a portion of whole bunches, and is aged for 12 months in used 600-litre barrels. Beth Willard: A certain chalkiness adds to the texture of this wine; a little mint adds freshness with a lemon myrtle character. Refined and elegant with the ability to age further. Valentin Radosav: Ripe red fruit with floral and sweet spice aromas. Generous and forward with refreshing acidity mid-palate, complex cinnamon and clove spice. Diana Rollan: Concentrated style with sour cherry, dried herbs, rose petal, cocoa and tobacco leaf on the nose. Textured and ripe, with a savoury, toasty character. 95 points
