Tamlyn Currin
A vineyard planted in 1982 on decomposed shale soils with some schist. Fermented in barrel, some new, some second fill. Clementine aroma. Chapter Three Chenin seems to have more fruit, broadening it out in the mouth, but also more minerality. This has a lovely matrix of stony white-linen tannins, with masses of ripe orange citrus and a sprinkle of pencil and nutmeg. Delicious bitterness. So, so mouth-filling. White-pepper cloud on finish. Cardamom. Builds and amplifies, builds and amplifies. VGV 17.5 points

The 2021 Chapter Three comes from shales soils in Stellenbosch, aged for 10 months on the lees. It has a complex nose with red apple, beeswax, orange pith and resin-like/lanolin scents all very well defined. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with a sapid finish. Maybe just needs a little more length? Yet this is classy stuff. 91 points
