100% Cinsaut for a red wine raises questions. It`s often considered a blending grape or one for rosé. But here, from these 42 year old vines in the lower Helderberg you have a wine that`s so perfumed and floral you almost wonder if you`re in the presence of a red Viognier or even Gewurztraminer. Light on its feet but intense and bright and energetic. (CW 24/07/20)

Bernhard Bredell makes this with the care and attention that some people apply to their best Pinot Noirs. Produced in a low-intervention style, with 70% whole bunches and very little oak influence, it`s all about terroir and fruit intensity. Stony, focused and floral with savoury tannins and layers of red cherry and pomegranate fruit. Drink 2022-25. 93 points
