This wine was one of the highlights of my tasting with Mauro Mascarello and his family. The Giuseppe Mascarello 2019 Barolo Perno Vigna Santo Stefano opens to mid-weight intensity with deep layers of cherry, raspberry and cassis. You also get crushed stone and hints of dried mint. Perhaps what stands out most in this wine is the balanced acidity that renders a sense of brightness and lightness to this otherwise age-worthy Barolo. 95+ points
