2015 Xose Lois Sebio Coios Bierzo

Brooding and powerful, big and peppery, this is Mencia at its most forceful. From 60 year-old vines in a vineyard packed with galet stones, this has something of Chateauneuf-du-Pape about it. Rugged and remote, Bierzo is a part of Old Castille that abuts Gailicia. For a long time there weren`t many winemakers left here. Xose Lois Sebio specialises in finding parcels of old and abandoned vines and recultivating them, with sometimes spectacular results. (NT 29/08/18)
