The Johann Michel wines tend to be slightly reductive on first opening and this is no exception. He is still a young vigneron making great wines from both his Cornas and St-Peray vineyards. The fruit in this wine comes from in and adjacent to Cornas itself and captures the soul of this rocky, magical place. Lots of fruit and complexity here with floral notes, black fruit and a hint of pepper. (CW 29/03/19)
