Montefalco Sagrantino
This is a 100% Sagrantino from one of Tabarrini`s three terroirs. The soil is a mixture of sand and clay and produces a relatively early drinking wine, though one with considerable legs for ageing. The vines were planted in 1998 and are now producing really interesting fruit at low yield. Both the south-east aspect and the very long total maceration times contribute to the quality here, as does the cool cellar and low fermentation temperatures. It is an elegant take on a Umbrian - and in lesser hands - rustic classic. (CW 05/10/16)

The 2009 Montefalco Sagrantino Colle Grimaldesco is a beautiful wine that delivers ample muscle and brawn. A bright note of soft cherry takes away from the austerity of the Sagrantino grape. Tobacco, leather and bitter chocolate layers fill in the rear. Great for grilled steak or barbecued ribs, it delivers fine, but firm intensity. Drink. 2015-2022. 91 points
