Quite small production of organically grown fruit gives this its head start in life. The classic Port grapes of Tinta Roriz and the Tourigas give it plummy fruit and richness, while the skilled winemaking endows it with elegance. The whole is full of class and energy, and it’s amazing value. (ZA 28/07/11)

The 2008 TINTO (QUINTA DO COA) is a Douro blend of the familiar big three—Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Earthy, with certain hint of bitter chocolate on the end, this becomes pure and crisp, with considerable power on the end and a sunny demeanor. Although it does not have a lot of mid-palate concentration, it is rather powerfully constructed for the price range and often seems quite serious. When it finally flattens out and thins after aeration, it still has power and perhaps a touch of nail polish. Drink now-2018. 88 points
