From the hands of Hermitage legend Jean-Louis Chave, apparently most of the fruit is from his vineyards too, rather than being bought in as it is purported to be. 100% Syrah, this wine repays ageing but will be very enjoyable now if decanted for at least 6 hours. The Hermitage hill is one of the finest bits of wine real estate in all of France and produces some of its absolutely finest wines. Chave`s Hermitages are all blends form different sites on the hill, for him that is the essence of the wine. He is following a six hundred year old family tradition in this and it has worked out ok so far... Earthy, complex and still very heavy on the nose and palate – perhaps only just now entering its drinkable phase. Lovely stately grandeur to the build here, and loads of dense flavour. Great length too. 17.5 points
