A distillery with a history – Glen Grant dates its founding to 1840, although the founding Grant Brothers later claimed they had begun twenty years earlier, just without a licence. An innovator in its day, it was the first distillery in Scotland with electric lighting, and in many markets it remains one of the top-selling single malts. In the modern era, though, standard Glen Grant bottlings have often been far from spectacular. Yet this cask is just lovely, lime and marzipan, zinging with energy, enhanced by the patina and complexity of age. Utterly superb. (NT 10/07/18)
