Angludet, Cantemerle, Moulin St-Georges, Puygueraud, Siran, Tronquoy
It’s no secret now that the 2022 Bordeaux vintage is very, very good. The wines have levels of freshness and energy that nobody expected after the hot, dry conditions of the growing season. The best – and there are a lot – marry a powerful intensity with a sense of weightless lift and energy. And after a week of releases, it’s clear that this is a campaign where it’s worth moving fast (Léoville Barton sold out overnight).
This morning we had Angludet, always a fine ambassador for the elegant, aromatic style we associate with Margaux. With big investments in the vineyard and amphorae in the cellar, it has never been better. After a decade’s absence from the en primeur scene, we are delighted to welcome an excellent Tronquoy (formerly Tronquoy-Lalande). Cantemerle is a real success in 2022: ‘We’ve never reached this quality of tannins before,’ says Pierre-Alexandre Gazaille. Siran is succulent and graceful.
On the right bank, Nicolas Thienpont’s excellent value Puygueraud is a fine expression of the vintage, with a dark core of fruit meeting by a surprising minerality. And among the Vauthier family wines, with high scores and an accessible pricepoint, Moulin St-Georges seems like a particularly attractive proposition. It’s early days yet, so stay tuned – lots more to come. /NT
