Sourced from the same winery as the anniversary wine number 62, the unheard of Bodegas Manuel Aragon `Sanatorio` in Chiclana, the NV La Bota de Oloroso Muy Viejísimo 63 Bota NO is an extremely old Oloroso. Viejisimo is the superlative for old in Spanish, and `muy` means very, so quite a pleonasm of a name. They blended two `botas` that hadn`t been refilled for a long time and were greatly evaporated and concentrated. It`s one of those wines of extreme age (80-90 years?); it is greatly concentrated by the years in cask, and I`m thinking about the Reliquia from Barbadillo, the Solera Fundacional from Perez Barquero (although from Montilla) or the very own Navazos NPI, 47 or 49. About 950 half-bottles were produced blending wine from two butts (casks). This wine could very well be classified as a Palo Cortado, but as the winery referred to it as Oloroso, they kept the classification. Dry does not quite describe how dry the wine is, and time concentrates everything, so there`s high acidity and e xtreme bitterness, with lots of dry extract. Sea water, iodine, seaweed, oyster shells and rusty nails, this is a beast of an Oloroso to enjoy smelling and sipping it slowly, rather than gulping it down in one. Again, as this was aged in Chiclana, it does not carry the Jerez appellation, but it has all the character of a Sherry anyway. And a superb one at that. This is an elegant beast of a wine that is going to be a legend. 99 points
