Jane Anson

Precise, with balance and depth of flavour, white pepper spice laced through fleshy red and blue fruits on the openng, and there are floral aromatics. All in all, this starts out confidently, but the acidity of the vintage adds more rusticity to the tannins on the close of play than in the recent exceptional vintages at de Pez. Skilful winemaing, but impacted by the vintage. 27hl/h yield. Tasted twice, new cellar since 2021. 3.6 pH. 50% new oak. 87 points

The 2024 de Pez is seriously beautiful. Dark, powerful and deeply savory, the 2024 possesses gorgeous textural depth and resonance. Mocha, dried flowers, spice, cedar and tobacco are all dialed up in this wonderfully fleshy, sumptuous Saint-Estephe. This is impeccably done. Tasted three times. 92-94 points

The 2024 Chateau de Pez was cropped at 27 hl/ha and underwent a very light extraction. It has a straightforward, classically styled bouquet with blackberry, loam and light cedar scents that unfold nicely in the glass. This has fine delineation and prudent use of oak. The sample at the château was a little more floral than the first. The palate is medium-bodied and cohesive, with a keen line of acidity, fine tannins and a fresh, sapid finish. This will require a couple of years in bottle, but it is certainly a decent Haut-Medoc that should age well. 89-91 points
