Monica Larner

The Catherine Marshall 2024 Elgin Pinot Noir on Sandstone Soils is made using Dijon clones to emphasize ripe yet vivid red fruits, with notes of redcurrant, cranberry and candied watermelon spanning the higher spectrum of Pinot Noir aromatics. Sourced from Elgin, the wine shows pretty brightness and a palpable sense of lift, with 60% crushed fruit contributing aromatic clarity. Table Mountain Sandstone, rich in silica and quartz, appears to lend a finely textured tannic backbone, adding definition rather than weight, while the cool maritime climate preserves a slight pinch of acidity that sharpens focus and drive. Production totals 7,500 bottles. 93 points
