2023 Tierhoek Panthera Pardus Pardus

Secondary Description
Lukas van Loggerenberg
Tierhoek is a farm in the remote Piekenierskloof region of the Swartland, on a high mountain plateau. The region is still fairly wild, and Cape Leopards (Panthera Pardus Pardus) roam the hills. There are just 16.5ha of vines on the farm (which is more than 715ha in size), producing grapes of incredible potential; at the prompting of Richard Kelley MW, some of South Affrica`s best winemakers have answered the call to make wine from these grapes. Lukas van Loggerenberg has taken some Chenin, for his 2024 Trust Your Gut, and some Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre, from which he has produced this excellent Rhone-style blend.
Grenache dominates the blend in this vintage; lifted, bright, fruit-driven yet with a lovely, spicy core. Friendly and inviting on the palate, with excellent length; great value. (JH 27/10/2025)

Tamlyn Currin

Lukas van Loggerenberg made this wine with Tierhoek`s red grapes (grown at 750 m). A Grenache-led blend with Syrah and Mourvèdre, aged in 300-litre barrels.
Raspberry, cherry menthol, rippling out in the mouth, like a stone dropped in a still pool reflecting the red of sunrise. So fresh. Long, loping tannins, like watching a magnificent horse run, glossy muscles rippling. Satin and stone. A beauty. 17.5 points
