This cuvee usually presents in a soft, relaxed, milky style, so I was surprised by the kick of energy it has this year. Lime, golden raisins and white pepper infuse it with the sort of thrust I associate more with ‘young gun’ producers. But underneath that, there is still an appealing sense of old-school ripeness. From vines just over the border with Volnay, below Les Santenots du Milieu. (NT 10/12/24)

Racked before the harvest and returned to barrel on fine lees. Mid lemon colour. Also quite extrovert on the nose but with much more finesse than in the old days. Why would that be? Much less sulphur these days. Pressed cool in 2023 over 4 and a half hour, which is also a refinement on previous practice. Not pretending it’s a noble terroir but now the winemaking has ameliorated the very rustic element. 89-90 points

The 2023 Meursault Village comes from two parcels. This has decent lift on the nose with white flowers and light leesy scents. The palate is well balanced with a rounded texture (a bit like a `mini-Charmes`) that dovetails into a spicy, stem ginger-tinged finish. Drink over the next five or six years. 87-89 points
