Fermention in 30% new oak, 33% second-fill, 32% third-fill, 5% concrete egg.
Plush and peachy, the new oak and lees ageing is very clear on the creamy, mildly toasty aromas. The palate is more mineral, deft in its generosity, and remarkably easy to drink as a result! Very long, peach, ripe pear and lemon curd linger. A development of the historical style of this wine (rich and woody), gaining new-found freshness without losing too much of the old charm. The 2023 Chardonnay has a crowd-pleasing, slightly honeyed bouquet, well defined with almond and hazelnut scents. The palate is balanced and fresh, not complex, but there is a fine line of acidity with attractive tropical notes on the finish. Tasted at the Meerlust tasting at Berry Brothers & Rudd in London. 88 points
