2023 Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges Pruliers

Secondary Description
Premier Cru
This steep, stony vineyard is among the appellation’s finest. Antoine Gouges notes the great complexity of soil here, built up over layers of scree interrupted by veins of rock breaking the surface. The perfume here is a little different from the other premier crus in the range, with the fruit perhaps more plum than cherry. Grippy, powerful, robust, a wine of force and potential. (NT 17/12/24)

The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has an airy, well-defined, perfumed bouquet with blackberry, boysenberry and violet aromas. It is quite Vosne-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, slightly tarry black fruit that exerts fine grip and a hint of cracked black pepper toward the finish. It`s not quite as finessed as the 2021, but I appreciate the density here. 90-92 points

Rich purple. Very oaky on the nose, but note that this is still in wood, unracked. Sample taken from all barrels. Sturdy stuff, very Nuits-St-Georges with plums and a little suggestion of a peachier aspect, gourmand and juicy, yet with a fine clean structure at the back. I like this more and more as it progresses across the palate. 92-94 points
