Eben Sadie Columella Syrah (Swartland)

Media Reviews

Neal Martin

The 2023 Columella is the usual blend of seven varieties. It has quite an intense bouquet, with a mixture of red and black fruit, cigar box, potpourri and a light sea influence. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine-grain tannins, gentle grip, beautifully balanced, with a long and tender finish. Just wonderful transparency to this Columella that will give many years of drinking pleasure. Snapping at the heels of the best Sadie has made. 96 points

The latest in a run of stellar Columella releases, this is now a seven-variety blend led by 38% Syrah and complemented by half a dozen Iberian and southern Rhone grapes. Expressing `all the oils of the Swartland`, it has subtle 30% whole clusters, aromas of garrigue, oregano and Negroni spices, fine-grained tannins, haunting minerality and a core of bramble, redcurrant and black cherry. One of the Cape`s greatest reds. 98 points
