Neal Martin
The 2020 Chardonnay Nine Yards utilises some 2nd and 3rd fill barrels to moderate the new oak that was 100% in previous vintages, so raised in 70% new oak from the Damy, Rousseau and Chassin cooperages. It mainly comes from two blocks after which there is a barrel selection. It has quite a bold and generous bouquet with grapefruit and hints of dried honey, touches of honeysuckle and pithy pear. The oak is present but neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with citrus lemon and struck flint on the entry; it`s cohesive, focused and quite powerful towards the finish with a tang of marmalade. Very good length. This is an excellent Nine Yards that should age well in bottle. 93 points

Plushy oak to the fore, mixing with vivid lime zest, marmalade, and green apples with a note of flinty salinity. 92 points
