John Livingstone-Learmonth
Dark red robe. Peppered-floral air, musky pot-pourri of dried flowers on the nose, accentuated red cherries, herbal nudges. There`s scope for good variety and expression. The palate leads on an iron lined run of red fruits, redcurrants, cherries, grips tightly, gives a rockface clench towards the finish. It has the feel of an altitude, slow burn wine in this sun-filled vintage, finds extra legs of extension as it goes. It`s rather cerebral, take your time wine with much mineral. The palate shows blue fruit, is tightly enclosed. `It has very grand freshness in our hot vintages` J-L Jamet. ****(*)

The star of the show is the 2019 Cote Rotie Terrasses, which can thought of as a hypothetical mix of the 2017 and 2018, with perhaps a nod to the 2017. Both red and black fruits, peppery herbs, dried flowers, graphite, and a beautiful sense of minerality define the bulk of the aromatics, and it`s medium to full-bodied on the palate, with fine, building tannins, terrific overall balance, and a great finish. From a vintage that produced ripe, tannic wines, this stays balanced and pure and is loaded with potential. 96 points
