Jane Anson

Just 1.5ha of vines at this property, fermented entirely in new oak barrels. There is clear potential and some gorgeous fat blackberry fruits, although lacks a little Pauillac typicity - perhaps the low yield is the issue, although not sure if that was hail related. From the same family at Fonbadet, and in this vintage I would go Fonbadet. Tasted twice and no question that this is an enjoyable wine. Harvest September 24 to October 11. A yield of 20hl/ha. 91 points

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Chateau Pauillac charges out of the gate with exuberant notes of Morello cherries, black raspberries and wild blueberries with hints of candied violets, pencil shavings and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate reveals loads of red, black and blue fruit layers with a seriously refreshing backbone and a chewy texture, finishing with a lively skip in its step. 90-92+ points

The 2019 Chateau Pauillac is a very, sophisticated wine. Bright floral notes, sweet red cherry and mint give the 2019 very pretty top notes. Medium in body, gracious and refined, the 2019 is a winner. This is such a classy wine. The only thing it might be missing is a bit of mid-palate depth, but that is hard to fully evaluate in a barrel sample shipped across the Atlantic in the middle of a pandemic. 90-92 points
