2019 Chateau de Bonnezeaux La Montagne

Secondary Description
Although Ch de Bonnezeaux is an ancient and lauded domaine, from the 1980s it gradully fell into disrepair and was largely abandoned. It was rescued by Guyonne Saclier de la Bâtie and her uncle Louis de Bouëxic de Pinieux in 2012. Since the AOP Bonnezeaux is only for sweet wines, dry versions like this have to be sold as vin de France. The La Montagne vineyard is the `home` vineyard and was the first to be replanted in 2012. Cultivation is entirely organic and winemaking is of the minimal intervention type. So a basket press sends the juice into barrels and full malolactic in undertaken for all the cuvves, with sulphur only being added as required at the time of bottling. This gives wines of grip and structure with pure floral and citrus flavours. (CW 23/06/21)

The 2019 La Montagne is a full-bodied, mouth-filling style with masses of structure and chew. It has intense concentration (that`ll be the yields of 16hL/ha), tannic grip and muscle. This is a low-intervention wine, grown organically on schist, hand-harvested, with no fining nor filtration and made with low levels of sulfur. Fermented in barrel, it is all grilled nuts, savory notes and subtle apple fruit. This is not a wine for drinking but for laying down because of its robust structure and firmness. 91 points
