Riviera Ligure di Ponente
Pigato is the Ligurian synonym for the western Mediterranean grape Vermentino, aka Rolle. You`ll most commonly find it on the French coast, on Corsica and Sardinia, the Tuscan coastal areas and the rivieras around Genoa. It can be made in different styles according to the soil and climate of the vineyard and most importantly picking date. This one is not left too long on the vine so shows a lovely ripeness cut with good freshness and a mineral stony character. It will work with herby, spicy food - including Italy`s best basil, which is Liguria`s most famous export. (CW 10/09/20)
