Jane Anson

Here the focus is on the palate`s texture and flavours rather than the aromatics on the nose, meaning you`re only getting half the picture. It`s an extremely concentrated dark gold colour with lots of enjoyable, seductive flavours extending to truffle, oranges and touches of lemon curd. It`s a lovely, if understated, year for Sauternes in that the flavours are rich and enjoyable, very much on the concentrated side but lacking in sculpting freshness. 30% new oak was used. A yield of 15hl/ha. 92 points

72% Sémillon, 28% Sauvignon Blanc, yield 13 hl/ha. 30% new oak. RS 135 g/l, TA 4.1 g/l. Ripe pear fruit with a touch of apricot. Powerful, juicy and intense, deep and long. An intense but harmonious wine with a long finish. 17 points

Pale to medium lemon-gold colored, the 2018 Rayne-Vigneau strides boldly out of the glass with notes of baked lemons, honeysuckle, dried mango slices and honeyed white peaches plus wafts of musk perfume and fungi. The palate reveals beautiful poise and freshness with loads of delicate, nuanced layers and a softly spoken finish. 92-94 points

A blend of 72% Semillon and 28% Sauvignon Blanc, this was picked at a yield of 15 hl/ha, and the alcohol is 13.5%. It has a rather brooding nose, smoky and minerally, calling to mind white gravel more than white peach. The palate is soft, ripe, plush and supple, but it never seems leaden, being cut with fine veins of minerals and a rather vivacious acidity. This has a bold, broad, and confident style, with a polished, sandy substance, and a delicious sweetness and complexity. And it has a lovely long grip to it as well. A surefire success, in a very pure, direct and defined style. Tasted three times. The élevage will be in 53% new oak and 30% second-fill oak. 93-95 points
