Coming from rockier vineyards close to the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Crus, this St-Aubin 1er Cru La Charmois from Philippe Colin is more stony and mineral. It has good mandarine fruit intensity on the nose and on the palate there`s a richness. It has a long finish with a cleansing, almost menthol twist balancing off the dark citrus and stonefuit flavours. (CW 5/11/19)

The 2018 Saint-Aubin La Charmois 1er Cru, raised in 25% new oak, has an attractive malic, slightly flinty bouquet that carries a very subtle reductive note. The palate is taut and saline on the entry, offering light black currant leaf and ginger notes, and nicely focused, with a nutty finish. Fine, but probably a little earlier-drinking than some other La Charmois tasted on my travels. 87-89 points
