2018 Philippe Colin Chassagne Chaumees

Secondary Description
Clos St-Abdon
The 1.5 hectare block that makes up the 2018 Philippe Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumees Clos St-Abdon is farmed by Philippe under a mettayage agreement and is a fresh style of Chassagne. On entry it has a good depth of apple and mandarine fruit and a creamy texture with a touch of hazelnut character. Still tight and youthful this shows great promise as the finish turns stony and mineral and long. (CW 5/11/19)

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumées Clos St. Abdon 1er Cru comes from a 1.5-hectare parcel that was under métayage until 2016, whereafter Philippe Colin now takes the entire crop and has added the name of the exact lieu-dit. Aged in 30% new oak, it has a very appealing sense of reserve on the nose, traces of shucked oyster shell complementing the almost Chablis-like aromas. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. An elegant Chassagne-Montrachet, with attractive apricot and quince notes furnishing the persistent finish. This is very refined and pure. Excellent. 90-92 points

Attractive nose, weighty style. Full and rich and with a chalky touch. Quite ripe and sweet peachy fruit. 16 points
