2017 Taupenot-Merme Gevrey-Chambertin Bel-Air
Secondary Description
A cooling complexity defines this wine. The Bel-Air premier cru is a stony site higher than any of the neighbouring Gevrey vineyards, and that freshness and altitude also defines the character of the wine. It is elegant, with delicious fruit and a core of freshness all carried along by a streak of acid towards the complex finish. In pre-phylloxera times, this vineyard was more extensive, but it wasn`t until the 1960s that this much smaller parcel was carved back out of the forest. Well worth discovering, this will only improve with age. (NT 21/02/19)

Reduction dominates the nose today. There is good intensity to the round, supple and generously proportioned flavors that also possess a caressing mouthfeel that contrasts somewhat with the stony, grippy and dusty finish that flashes sneaky good length on the balanced finale. 90-92 points
