2017 Taupenot-Merme Chambolle Combe d`Orveau
Secondary Description
The Combe d`Orveau marks the boundary between Vosne and Chambolle along the natural cleft in the hillside that the Burgundians call combe. There is one section of this vineyard too far up the valley to merit more than village status, but Romain`s vines sit in that part which is premier cru and next to Les Musigny. Ethereal and profound, with initially elusive aromas of flower and spice gradually coming into focus. It all comes together towards the rear of the palate with fresh red fruits fusing with both the more aromatic and more earthy elements. (NT 21/02/19)

An elegant, pure and airy nose offers up pretty red and dark raspberry aromas that are cut with hints of spice, rose petal and wood. The vibrant and wonderfully refined medium-bodied flavors exude an evident minerality on the chiseled, focused and lingering finish. There is a mild suggestion of backend dryness but I suspect that it will age out with a few years of cellaring. 89-92 points
