Still youthful and showing its 80% new wood, this is a very ambitious Pinotage from a fantastic Cape red wine vintage, exhibiting considerable colour, structure and concentration, fine-boned tannins and layers of raspberry and black cherry fruit. Give it time. Drink 2021-30. 94 points

The 2017 Pinotage has a lovely nose of baked black cherries, black currants, Indian ink and hints of orange blossom, all pure and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, well-pitched acidity and an elegant finish that Pinotage skeptics ought to taste in order to change their minds. This is how to do commercial/quality Pinotage. 91 points
