2016 Cabutto Barolo Tenuta La Volta

Some of the biggest mistakes of my early wine life involved buying wine because it was cheap for what it was. Turned out not so cheap after all if all you do is regret it. So it was with the 2015 Cabutto we bought, which I thought might be lacking. It wasn`t, far from it. When the 2016 turned up at the same price slight doubts assailed me; most of the other 16s had a price hike involved because of the vintage status. Nothing to fear, the wine has a proper Nebbiolo appearance. Drunk over three nights (it was impossible to make it last longer) both nose and palate developed more complex floral and fruit notes, the tannins are beautifully managed and the acidity is balanced and fine. It has proper length and lovely texture. Still a baby of course but should be seamlessy drinkable over the next 15 years at least. Oh, and the price! (CW 21/07/20)
