Some of the biggest mistakes of my early wine life involved buying wine because it was cheap for what it was. Turned out not so cheap after all if all you do is regret it. So I thought the 2015 Cabutto we bought might be lacking. It wasn`t, far from it. When the 2016 turned up at the same price slight doubts assailed me; most of the other 16s had a price hike involved because of the vintage status. Nothing to fear, the wine has a proper Nebbiolo appearance. Drunk over three nights (it was impossible to make it last longer) both nose and palate developed more complex floral and fruit notes, the tannins are beautifully managed and the acidity is balanced and fine. It has proper length and lovely texture. Still a baby of course but should be seamlessy drinkable over the next 15 years at least. Oh, and the price! (CW 21/07/20)

Andrew Jefford
Deep, clear black-red in color, with no bricking or browning as yet, barely even a hint of garnet. Sweet, warm, creamy fruits: lots of subtle sensual allure here. It’s not the most forceful of aromas, but very classy. And in a way that is exactly what the palate delivers: smooth, harmonious, and well-aged wine of closeknit but accessible textures and glowing ripe resonance. Another very assured, wonderfully accessible yet ageworthy wine from what is a very impressive cohort of blended Barolos in this vintage. Drink now, drink later, drink in confidence. 92 points
