Neal Martin
The 2016 Morey St Denis 1er Cru les Ruchots, which includes 25% stem addition and 25% new oak, was more introspective on the nose, especially after the Les Blanchards. There are tightly knit black fruits laced with a Thai fish oil tang. The palate is medium-bodied with very pure black cherry and blueberry fruit suffused with blood orange notes, energetic if not deep nor immensely structured toward the poised finish. Superb, but it will need time. 91-93 points

Reduction. There is a delectable richness to the velvety and sappy middle weight flavors that possess a caressing, round and generous mouthfeel that continues onto the sappy, lingering and beautifully balanced finish. This should both drink well young but age well too. Good stuff. 90-93 points
